A packed house at a local community center committed to “Going Green” for Cassandra in her House District 71 campaign.
MAUMELLE, Ark. — Around 70 attendees packed the meeting room to support the campaign. Those who showed up in support of Green’s campaign included former students, fellow teachers, family members, local leaders, and concerned voters.
“I am Cassandra Green, and tonight I am kicking off my campaign for State Representative, District 71,” said Green, met with raucous applause from those attending. “As a proud, native Arkansan, I come from a small town where the sense of community was profound. Growing up in a family of educators, I have devoted my life to public education.”
Green currently serves students and families every day as the Section 504 Coordinator for the Little Rock School District at the helm of the Office of Civil Rights. She also serves as the district's Student Hearing Officer. She received multiple degrees, a bachelor’s in Deaf and Elementary Education and Special Education in 1996 from the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Since then, she has worked in Beebe Schools, Rivendale, and at the North Little Rock School District, though Green’s home in Central Arkansas has always been Maumelle.
“Observing over the years the changes in Maumelle and the way they have affected us all, I believe it's time for change. Because of that needed change, I plan on going directly to the community. This campaign will have community events, hold a listening tour starting right after the primary, and show up at your door.”
Green was introduced by former State Representative Jimmy Jeffress during the event. Rep. Jeffress is known for being a common-sense legislator who solved problems for his constituents in Crossett, Green’s hometown. Jeffress was a teacher for 38-years before he retired.
“I can assure you that Cassandra has all of the right values and virtues that we deserve in a State Representative,” said Rep. Jeffress. “Honesty, integrity, dedication, hard work— all of those things are innate. She was raised right.”
“I was excited beyond belief when she asked me to do this,” said Rep. Jeffress. “I can vouch for her that she is somebody to be trusted who has good values that we need in the Capitol.”
Echoing these sentiments, Green discussed her values during her remarks.
Green said, “My values are firmly rooted in my Christian beliefs, integrity, empathy, and family. These principles were instilled in me by my parents, who, despite facing adversity, taught me to love everyone. These beliefs propel me to be a beacon for all, advocating for acceptance and understanding.”
House District 71 is currently represented by Brandon Achor, a pharmacist elected in only 2022. His legislative history has primarily focused on catering to pharmacists and the pharmaceutical industry. He has never faced a serious challenger, despite the district’s neck-and-neck margins. In the 2020 Presidential Election, Joe Biden narrowly lost House District 71 by around 58 votes, with the election being decided by only 29 voters overall.
As the campaign progresses, Green looks forward to hosting community events and town halls across her district. For additional information or press inquiries, please contact vote@gogreenforarkansas.com
